BERRY AND CURRANT FROGURT / FRUITS IN FROZEN YOGURT

Is there anyone who don’t love Ice-cream? Summer is all about ice-cream and ice-cream. So how about treating yourself with a healthier substitute of ice-cream in a low-fat way? I mean avoiding the cream from the ice-cream. So what would you call it then?

I call it “Frogurt”.

“Frogurt” means Frozen Yogurt. Frozen yogurt with a smooth texture tastes just like soft-serve ice-cream with a sweet, tangy flavor. The tangy flavor can be avoided by adding more sweetener.

If you are an ardent follower of healthy life style, then opt for “Frogurt”. "Frogurt" contains less satisfying fat. However, it is low in calories and rich in probiotics and aids your digestive system, especially for people who are lactose intolerant.

Let's talk in measurements: A half-cup serving of frozen yogurt on an average has up to 140 calories and up to 3 grams of fat. Whereas the branded ice-creams contain 3 times more calories and 5 times more fat when compared with frozen yogurt! And if you opt to use 0% fat free yogurt then there is nothing best than this!!

My recipe for today is "Berry and Currant Frogurt". You can mix in seasonal fruits or fruits of your choice. For the ardent healthy life style followers I have come up with fruits such as dried currants and fresh / frozen berries.

Few ingredients with less work and you have a yummy dessert to be served in restaurant style.

This recipe can be tweaked with different variety of fruits and nuts to create your own variations. I am sharing with you the simplest healthy treat with routine ingredients available in my pantry.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups Frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup dried seedless Black Currants
  • 1/3 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 cup Icing sugar / honey (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 cups frozen full fat greek yogurt (option to use 0% free fat yogurt)
  • Garnish with berries and currants

Procedure:

In a mixer / food processor add the frozen blueberries, currant, sugar, vanilla extract and lemon juice and grind it to smooth paste. Cover and process until smooth.

Please feel to use fresh blueberries for this recipe.

Now add in the yogurt to the blueberry mixture and give a quick mix.

Fill the ice-cream in a tub and freeze for 2-3 hours before serving.

Garnish with some more currants and berries.

You will love this instant-mix dessert that is tangy and sweet, infused with the flavors of berries.
